Psychotherapist working from Hastings, Tunbridge Wells and
on-line
Psychotherapist, journalist, and writer based in Hastings
I retrained as a psychotherapist a dozen years ago after spending around 25 years working as a print and broadcast journalist.
I graduated with a Masters in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Regents University in London in 2014 as well as a Post-Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy and an Advanced Diploma at the same institution. I’m also qualified as an Integrative Supervisor with the Minster Centre and successfully trained in Person-Centred and Experiential (PCE) Counselling with Metanoia.
I am a registered member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and meet the requirements for the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
I work from my home in Hastings, an office in Tunbridge Wells, and on-line.
Background
Over the last dozen years, I’ve practiced as a therapist with the NHS and privately. Prior to this, I worked as a journalist for magazines and newspapers, and broadcasters mainly as a freelance. As a staff journalist, I edited a number of publications in the consumer electronics industry, while contributing to various national newspapers such as The Guardian, The Observer, and an eclectic range of magazines. Nowadays, I contribute occasionally to the Irish national state broadcaster for its show World Report when I find myself somewhere interesting.
In my childhood, I lived in The Philippines and Holland and travelled widely on the continent and through the Far East with my family. As an adult, I lived in New Orleans and Paris, and spent three years in Latin America working as a freelance journalist and English teacher. In more recent trips, I’ve seen a lot more of the Far East, North and East Africa, and Scandinavia.
Following the millennium, I spent some three years in Latin America – a region that inspired me to write a first book – Rum ‘n' Coca– about my experiences living and working there as a journalist. I'm particularly familiar with Eastern, European and Latin American cultures, have a good understanding of Spanish and French and am currently learning Italian.
My base through much of this time was London, but since 2024 I’ve relocated to Hastings on the South-east coast.
During this time, I’ve written my first novel that is due for publication in 2026. Entitled Lord of the Sighs, it’s a psychological thriller set in the world of mental health and draws heavily on my experience in the field.
